Depending on the severity of the infection your choices are:
1 destruction of colony
2 Shook swarm into clean equipment


Hmmm  seems to be some of this concept going around,   Need not destroy a colony,  and frankly I have never ever needed to do a shook swarm,  Terramycin, if you like,  but good clean feed with a bit of chorine in it has always cleared it up in my yards.   We see it in dry years quite often,  but it’s a very small problem if your willing to feed. 

Last month I had this discussion with a dozen experts as one of our state inspectors is trying to make this a rule in IL,  and it’s a complete non starter.  It didn't take long to get all the support I needed to back up the concept that burning is a extreme position and not required.
