There's no free lunch.  Collecting pollen is energenically expensive, so
the need to double the amount collected comes at a cost.

I'm curious about your casual observation, since where I live, leaving a
pollen trap on a hive for more than a week or so invariably crashes that
hive (other than during the most intense period of pollen flow in the
spring).  What have others observed in your areas?
