not necessarily, but you might get a big swarm, anyway.
 
slow-down-the-freezing?!  Introducing moisture (a la sugar syrup) into the
colony in the cold of winter is a good way to do in your bees.  Might be OK
in TX or elsewhere where bees have flight much of the time.  Newbees
beware, indeed.
