I wrapped 50 and did nothing to the other 50 a few years ago without any
difference, this satisfied me that they can tolerate cold, your area is very
cold and I have understood that bees are kept in underground storage to keep
temp and humidity even throughout the winter which helps their survival rate;
regarding medicating early, I was told by I believe Diane Samatara(sic) that
early medicating needs to be donne to be sure that multiple cycles of brood
are needed to effectively kill the mites, this of course obviates a fall
crop, presumably a better spring start is compensation
