re: "So, what is the travel distance of wind-blown pollen?"

When I was stationed in northern Germany, I discovered that I had allergies to pollens that were blowing up from sub-Saharan Africa.  This was apparently common enough that the post doctors knew exactly what to test for.  That argues for a travel distance measured in thousands of kilometers.  Granted, the fraction of long-distance pollen was not large but it was well-within the limits of detection even in the 1980s.
