"Why not store them sticky, or place them on the hives to get cleaned up? "

My storage shed is also my workshop, and is often open, so that would just bring the robbing indoors. I have put them back on hives at times, but this time of year I was worried that the overpowering aroma of freshly extracted combs might draw robbers directly to the hives.
I have done the deck cleanup thing quite a number of times, just not with hives in the backyard. Evidently 20 yards is not a great enough distance. :)
