I have a friend who has been following bee activity by scale hives. Very
good scale hives that take measurements by 5 g accuracy and take
measurements up to every 10 seconds - 1 minute. Among many observations he
has notices that in the fall after feeding there is pulses of outgoing bees
that never return. When a nice flying weather comes the colonies loose
1000 - 3000 bees in just few hours. At first I thought that it is not
possible. But now he has data from several years and many hives / year. This
loss only happens in the fall and the week after winter feeding or during
time between winter feeding if there is no food coming in for a bout a week.

I would love to get my hands into bee counters ( bees in / out) and to be
able to confirm these losses. Anyone know how much they cost ?
