Thanks to Gavin for the informative post. Looking at the picture, I would say this is one sick 
hive. They appear to have chalkbrood as well as EFB and who knows what else. Perhaps 
there is something going on besides EFB that is intensifying the effect of a normally less 
severe disease. Weakened immunity caused by varroa can certainly increase the 
susceptibility to pathogens and multiple infections.
