CHILE- LEGISLATOR REQUESTS TO THE GOVERNMENT TO STOP THE INTRODUCTION OF
GMOs AFFECTING THE NATIONAL BEE INDUSTRY

A call to government to stop the legislation that facilitate the
introduction of transgenics in the country, made the Senator of the South
Maule, Ximena Rincón, after a Court of Justice of the European Union decreed
that Chilean honey is contaminated with transgenic pollen, so must go
through a review process and labeling prior to marketing. The
parliamentarian said that what happened in the Germanic country has very
serious consequences for Chilean beekeepers, since Germany gets just over 74
percent of their shipments.
