Queen Rearing and Breeding Workshop

A series of “Queen Rearing Workshops” will be held in Alberta. The focus of the workshop is on understanding the basis of quality queen rearing. Breeding resistant bees and integrating selected bee stock into local bees will be discussed.

Dr. Joe Latshaw, of Latshaw Apiaries, Ohio, USA and Dr. Medhat Nasr, of Alberta Agriculture will be the instructors at the workshops. Dr. Latshaw owns Latshow apiaries in Ohio, where he has utilized his extensive background in honey bee genetics to develop the industry recognized strains of AUREA (Italian) and KARNICA (Carniolan) honey bees. Workshops will be held as follows:

1st location: Airdrie Ag Info Centre
97 East Lake Ramp NE, Airdrie
Date: Monday, March 7, 2011 from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm.
 
2nd location: Edmonton Crop Diversification Centre North
17507 Forth Road NW, Edmonton
Date: Wednesday, March 9, 2011 from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
 
3rd location: Peace River Provincial Building
9603 - 90 Avenue, Peace River
Date: Friday, March 11, 2011 from 9:00 am - 2:00 pm.
Peace River Beekeepers Association Meeting will be held from 2:00 – 4:30 pm to discuss “Varroa and Nosema Management: What is New and Future Prospectives”. Presentation by Medhat Nasr – Refreshments will be served.

The cost of the workshop is $42.00 
including Queen Rearing Book, lunch, Refreshments and GST.

Limited to 20 participants and Pre-registration is required

Payment for the workshop is at the door (Cash or Cheque).

Make cheque payable to Alberta Beekeepers.
