The article at http://www.doctissimo.fr/html/dossiers/hopital/articles/15433-miel-cicatrisation.htm

explains, in French, that honey has been used in the university hospital in Limoges since 1984 for transplant surgery and in digestive surgery. Initially local honey was used but now lavender and Thyme are preferred for their antiseptic qualities.
The honey is now sterilised by gamma radiation and is available in tubes.

Another article in English: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18433338

Regards,
Bil, France
