>Many places in the west have open ranges.  That means no fences.  Not even fences to keep animals off the road.  You hit a cow or sheep or domestic bison and you not only wreck your car you also must pay the animals owner the value of the animal.

When I farmed in Colorado in the '70's the law was you fence out, not in. don't know if it's changed.
