Sorry Mr Truesdell but imidacloprid was never subjected to a ban, yes it was restricted to certain crops but never banned.

History

In 1999 , Jean Glavany , Minister of Agriculture of the French government decided to suspend the use of Gaucho a treatment for sunflower seeds .

2004, the French Agriculture Minister Hervé Gaymard announces a ban on the use of Gaucho seed treatment for corn, until the reassessment of this substance by the European Commission in 2006.

 Shortly before this decision, the Confidor , another imidacloprid  based insecticide  had the authorization for use on apple , pear, and melon withdrawn from April 26, 2004 , with an exemption for existing stocks until 30 June 2004 .

2008, the European Commission put imidacloprid in Annex I to Directive 91/414/EEC, which  allows Member States to include the active substance in preparations that have been authorized for use on the market of their territory.

Facts are facts, it was never banned, it only had restrictions on its use like the other neonics.
