It reminds me of a tool that my mother used in gardening but only a stub of
the blade remained which she used to cut roots and snip the tops of bulbs.
But that is not to say that the one Ma used was originally for gardening.
The bulb dibble that I used during many a summer gardening stint had a
shallow slot or ferrule (like a straight augur) so they are easier to pull
out of stiff ground.

Now, I'm not familiar with anyhting like this in a farrier's tool kit, and
I wonder how this would be used with horses?  I can see the blade being
used to trim, but why such a heavy point and a combination of blade?
