instruction page
JISCmail is a service running on an NT system using Listserv software.
This service permits UK academics and support staff to join, create and
control electronic discussion lists.
Please save this message for future reference, especially if this is the
first time you are joining an electronic mailing list.
To view a copy of the user documentation please see our web page at
http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/docs/ This will give you all the information
you require about the facilities available from the JISCmail service. If
you do not have access to the web, you can either
mailto:[log in to unmask] with a request for a printed copy
(please make sure you include your name and postal address),
alternatively email to [log in to unmask] putting the command
"info"(do not include the quotes) into the main body of the email.
From the Web you can:
- Search archives - Post to the list - Join or leave the list (or change
settings)
Email
You can send commands and messages by email. Before doing this please
read the user documentation. There is also a reference card for users,
which you may find helpful. To receive a list of what documentation

to [log in to unmask] or look on our web pages at:
http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/docs/

Contributions sent to this list are automatically archived. You can get a
list of the available archive files by sending an "INDEX IND-ARCH"
command to [log in to unmask] You can then order these files with a
"GET IND-ARCH LOGxxxx" command, or using JISCmail's database search
facilities. Send an "INFO DATABASE" command for more information on the
latter.
This list is available in digest form. If you wish to receive the
digested version of the postings, just issue a SET IND-ARCH DIGEST
command.
This list is marked confidential so that it's existence is not publicised
openly by JISCmail, thereby reducing the possibility of spamming. Please
note that the "GIVE" command is automatically disabled for all archive
files.
Please note that it is presently possible for anybody to determine that
you are a member of the JISCmail list through the use of the "REVIEW"
command, which returns the email address and name of all the members. If
you do not want your name to be visible, just issue a "SET IND-ARCH
CONCEAL" command. More information on JISCmail commands can be found in
the JISCmail reference card, which you can retrieve by sending an "INFO
REFCARD" command to [log in to unmask]

Subject: Re: discussion groups
Do any of you know if there is a similar discussion group to HIS_ARCH which
is based around British industrial archaeology. I am not thinking of leaving
you all but I would like to know a bit more about what's current in British
research since Britain is the source of much of the goods and culture in
colonial Australia.
