Interesting list.  Unfortunately, the determination of "second stringers"
is often determined more by recording quantity than compositional quality.
I might be tempted to put Zemlinsky, Buxtehude and maybe Schmidt in the
"first string".

In any event, I will add the following to your list (off the top of my
head):

Bax, Robert Simpson, Arensky, Malipiero, Martinu, Borodin, Braga Santos,
Piston, A. Scarlatti, and a whole slew of pre-Baroque composers.
