Kiel, Friedrich, 1821-1885
I got his Missa Solemnis on Capriccio (10 587) from Berkshire, probably
based upon an Internet recommendation and was fascinate.
I couldn't make up my mind whether the music was a pastiche of Haydn
or Beethoven and finally concluded that it was music worthy of either,
although written by a composer who born sixteen years after the former's
death and was six when the latter died. It's conducted by Helmuth
Froschauer w/ the Koelner Rundfunkorchester. The singers are Brigitte
Lindner, soprano; Rigine Roettger, mezzo, Elisabeth Graf, alto; Thomas
Dewald, tenor; and Carl Faeth, bass.
The CD also contains Kiel's Overture for Grand orchestra, op. 6.
