I agree with many other that the Klemperer edition can easily be put at the
top.  The impression given by Klemperer is that he is immersed in a sort of
"greek tragedy".  For their part Ludwig and Vickers are still unsurpassed.
For the lovers of historical recording my I suggest:a) the Furtwangler`s
live in Vienna in 1953 (published by Fonit-Cetra-Italy), much better than
the official recording published by EMI with the same Orchestra and the
same cast; b) the Bruno Walter`s recorded in 1941 at the Met with Kirsten
Flagstad in full voice`s splendor and a great performance by Kipnis as
Rocco.  I take this occasion to present my sincere season greetings to
all the membersd of the list.
