Peter Lundin insists that the DS 10 is best heard live, and I have to
agree that this is one of those works whose sheer viscerality will never
work with a recording. One of the best muscial moments of my 11 years
of Philadelphia orchestra concerts came when a then 28-year-old Mark
Wigglesworth astonished both orchestra and audience alike with an
absolutely wrenching performance. I've never heard a recording that didn't
pale next to it, including the one led by Jansons recorded with the same
group shortly.

btw, does anyone know what Wigglesworth is doing now? He was highly thought
of here and has suddenly dropped off the map.
