Why? It seems very much like Shostakovich (and every bit as good), at
least to me.  I've just gone through all of the Olympia sets I've bought
- The Golden Key ballet, the piano sonatas 1-6, the 17 Easy Pieces, the
concerti for violin, flute, and trumpet, and a boatload of symphonies and
"chamber symphonies" (there's no real difference between the symphonies
and the chamber symphonies; Vainberg simply didn't want to get into really
high-numbered symphonies).  It's a splendid series, and if you're at all
interested in 20th-century Russian composers, Vainberg counts as a splendid
addition.  I like him as much as I like Prokofiev and Shostakovich.  I've
not been reviewing these discs, because the number of them daunted me, and
I felt that I'd run out of things to say.  I've loved every one of them,
however.
