I have always let the bees clean my extracted combs prior to storage.
Were I to store them wet would the amount of honey left be hygroscopic enough
to get wet and ferment?
It IS pretty humid here in the Northeast USA right up till the cold of winter.

If you look under a pile of wet supers the bees have cleaned you will find
hundreds of bee legs- evidence of fighting in my opinion.
