Nominations for the Second Cycle of the John L. Cotter Award (to be presented
in January 2001 in Long Beach) are now closed. Last day to submit a
nomination form was yesterday, June 30th. The SHA Awards Committee would like
to thank all those who have submitted nominations and remind them that files
for these nominations must be completed by October lst (see Sping 2000 SHA
NEWSLETTER 33(1) for more details).

If you were considering a nomination but did not get around to starting the
process, and if your potential candidate would still fall under the Award's
criteria (i.e. still a student in training or in the first five years of
their professional career) PLEASE consider doing the nomination and sending
it in under the Third Cycle which will start in January 2001 at Long Beach
for a January 2002 presentation in Mobile, Alabama.

Later in the Fall we will be announcing the selection for 2001 in Long Beach
and we hope you will all attend the Awards Banquet-Ceremony to
participate in the second presentation of the John L. Cotter Award in
Historical Archaeology.

                                Thank You,

                                Robert L. Schuyler
                                Chair, SHA Awards Committee
