Dear Colleagues in general,
(and Adrienne Roberts in particular),

I find myself with a slightly embarrasing problem with regard to
travelling to the SHA conference in January, and I would be tremendously
grateful if someone would be able to help (please reply off-list).

In essence, my original plan was to fly to Montreal, and then take the
train from Montreal to Quebec. Unfortunately, my airplane schedule was
changed 'slightly', and leaving aside my somewhat different
interpretation of 'slightly', the upshot is that I don't believe I have
enough time to make it from the airport to the train station. A York
colleague of mine may be in a similar situation, although his flight may
arrive early enough that he'll still make the train.

Would it be at all possible for someone who is planning on passing
through, or leaving from Montreal, to give me - and possibly a colleague
- a lift (ride) from Montreal to Quebec?

I will be arriving at 5:30 PM on Wednesday evening (on a connecting
flight from Newark). Naturally, I am more than happy to share petrol
(gas) costs. (To a European, even Canadian petrol looks cheap)

As I have a paper in a Thursday morning session, and am hosting a
roundtable luncheon that same day, it's imperative that I arrive
Wednesday evening (and yes, I am sorted out for accomodation).

I should note that I'm far less obstreperous in person than I am by
e-mail. And curiously, given Timothy Scarlett's statement "Don't email
them to find a driving partner that likes SKA music.", I do actually
rather like Ska.... But I won't insist on listening to it on the drive
- more probably I'll be sleeping off jet-lag.

Finally, please note that due to a serious family illness, I won't be
able to check my email for up to a week after 6:30 PM GMT this evening.
Please be patient if you don't hear from me immediately.

Massive thanks in advance,

Alasdair Brooks
