I got this from another list and think it maybe of some interest.

Although I am personally involved, I thought the Group would like to
hear about a brand new magazine that will be launched on March 1st.

International Record Review has been founded by Barry Irving, formerly
a Director of Gramophone Magazine. Harriet Smith, formerly Deputy
Editor of Gramophone, joins him as IRR's Editor. IRR is a totally
independent publication with 7 office staff, including myself.

The reasons for launching at this time are manyfold but the fast
developing use of the world wide web by record collectors creates
the need for a truly comprehensive, non-parochial international
magazine that seeks out CDs (as well as DVDs, videos, etc.) from all
over the world for review and not just the ones available through
distributors in the UK where IRR happens to be based.

International Record Review will cover only classical music and is
designed for the committed and enthusiastic collector. By avoiding
"talking down" we hope also to create a strong readership amongst
younger listeners who may be on the edge of developing the passion
for music that we all share! IRR will be heavily reviews based and
will feature the very best writers in the field. Included is "our
own" Martin Anderson, plus renowned names from France, Germany, the
US and, of course, from the UK. We are currently looking for
Japanese/Pacific Rim contributors with English language skills (ideas
   anyone?).

Hopefully this list (just a small percentage of the entire reviewer
panel) will whet the appetite: Martin Anderson, Piers Burton-Page,
David Cairns, Hugh Canning, Jed Distler, David Fanning, Fabrice Fitch,
Mortimer Frank, Michael Glover, Harris Goldsmith, Pierre-Martin Juban,
Barrymore Laurence Scherer, Robert Layton, Robert Levine, Max Loppert,
Michael Oliver, Andrew Porter, Jan Smaczny, Michael Tanner, Stephen
Walsh, John Warrack etc. etc. We aim to print well over 250 reviews
in the launch edition - all full length. There will be a lively
letters page, plus news, audio equipment reviews and new release
   information.

For my part I have developed a pretty comprehensive International
Record Label Website Directory which will feature in each edition.
We will scour the release lists of record companies from the largest
to the smallest, and from all over the world, to identify issues that
happen not to be distributed in our "home country" the UK. We feel
it is important to review these CDs too. Although we will encourage
the record dealer as the collector's first port of call, the Directory
should prove a useful tool for finding links to foreign retailers
and e-tailers who can provide international mail-order.

IRR will be sold worldwide through Record Shops/Dealers and by
subscription. We are developing a web site for IRR (more anon).

Sorry if this all seems like an advert, but we are a group of classical
music enthusiasts (and industry professionals) who want to build a
successful business out of providing what we feel is a pretty clear
need. If you would like to know more please write/fax/e-mail me at:
