Dave Orea got me started by asking:
>Have you already thought in wich CDs would (or will) be the most
>>delectable Christmas present to yourself?
Well, if I had the money, or if I didn't have the money but spent it anyway
and could smuggle it past the gimlet eyes of my wonderful wife:
1. Luciano Berio's Sequenzas (complete), DG '20/21' 457 038-2. BTW,
has anyone listened to this set?
2. Andras Schiff's Haydn piano sonatas, TELDEC 0630-17142-2. I've
been eyeing this one for a while. I know I will probably have to
pay the full price, because a set this good will never be
remaindered.
3. Messiaen's St Francois d'Assise, DG '20/21' 445 176-2. I enjoy
his Catalogue d'oiseaux set very much, Naxos 8.553523-3,4,
performed by Hakan Austbo. I love the music. I recently bought
Volume 3 of his Piano Music, also performed by Austbo, on Naxos
8.554090 but haven't listened to it yet. Is there also a Volume
1 and 2? Has anyone listened to St Francois? This is another
one I probably have to spring for.
See, Dave? You got me started. To add a twist to something I once read,
'CD collecting is a gentle madness.'
