Bob is probably fortunate to be in the dark on this one. Tan Dun is a
*classical* composer born in 1957. I think he's promoted as the essence of
eclectic music-making into the 21st century. His music has been recorded
by quite a few record companies, and he has a new recording out having
"millennium" in the title. It's working very well so far, and we've just
seen the tip of the iceburg.
Many months ago I was on a roll concerning how classical music was in
the process of being redefined through a broadening of what constitues
classical music with the ultimate goal being a "world" music of strong
popularity.
Anyways, I see Tan Dun as the right man to musically represent the new
order. Many of you likely see my statements as extreme and loaded with
conspiracies. Not at all. It's a fairly natural process that's evolving.
