My father has always enjoyed the Ormandy recording on Sony (largely
because of the amazing solo work of baritone Harve Presnel) but I dislike
the poor sound quality and general uneveness of the performance.  My
personal favorite is the Blomstedt recording on London.  There is an
incredible clarity of texture from the chorus as well as a perfect balance
between the chorus and the huge orchestration.  Aside from a few forgivable
sins committed by the soprano soloist, I think this performance is
virtually flawless.
