The nice think about the BBC Music Magazine is that is comes with a CD with
entire pieces and there is 'step to step' listening advice.  They cover the
gamut from renaissance through to modern music.  I don't like some of it
and give those CDs away, but you can learn a lot about the pieces and the
composer.  Each month they do an article on a composer, and their is a
column called, Building a Collection.
