Concerning Jim Deetz.

He gave you all his attention, regardless of how important or unimportant
you thought you were.
He just about singlehandedly saved historical archaeology from the number
crunchers and artifact wigglers.
He would rather be wrong and thought-provoking than right and prosaic.
He was loved by his students, many of whom became his friends.
He gently showed by example that historical archaeology is all about
people.
