The Budapest String is one of the three best chamber orchestra of Hungary,
founded so about fifteen years ago by Karoly Botvay, who was former cellist
of the Bartok Quartet. Most of the members are the same up today, and they
are teachers of music. In Budapest they have a little resident music hall
where they are playing often, but they give concerts at the Music Academy
too.The central of their repertoire goes from the barock to the early
classic period, but they are not a HIP group, they are playing with a
symphonic ton. In every summer they are giving a Haynd Festival at the
Eszterhazy castle at Fertod, giving concerts and teaching. At their best
concerts they have distinguished guests who can inspired them, with Lajos
Lencses (oboa) or Andras Agoston (violin) they gave nice concerts, without
such solists they are not more than OK. It can happen worse to somebody as
hearing them.
