A few days ago, I bought Volume 1 of Martinu's works for cello on Naxos,
the majority of the CD taken up with the three cello sonatas. All this
music was new to me. I found it immediately appealing with some trademark
rhythms, good humour and in several cases, beautiful long-line melodies.
I wondered what might be on Volume 2 when it appears and checked Grove,
finding probably enough material for at least another two volumes. I'm
looking forward to them. However, Grove contains only a selective work
list, so I went searching for a web site which contains a full list. I
found some very useful sources of information, but not what I was looking
for. So:
Does anyone know of a site which contains a full work list for Martinu?
Does anyone know whether Grove has a standard set of criteria for deciding
whether a composer's work list will be abridged for publication and, if
this is to be done, how is the selection made of those works which are
to be included, or, alternatively, omitted?
