By now the word is out and the word is that the Washington Chorus won the
Grammy in the category of Best Choral Performance. The piece recognized
was the Britten War Requiem which The Washington Chorus will be performing
again with Leonard Slatkin and the National Symphony in October, 2000.
While we don't wear glued on dresses like some other folks recognized in
the GRAMMYs, we are proud to say that we worked hard producing this fine
musical composition and hope that the integrity and hard work that were
evident in this work will continue to build the fine reputation that this
hard-working group deserves. There were 98 categories recognized. We were
in category 89 and had made the semi-finals with only four other groups.
This category originally started out with 16 groups. We are extremely
proud that our work has been recognized by the world.
