I think it's a sudden and strong increase in loudness, the kind that could
make you jump up from your seat. It's probably more complex than that, but
I try to ignore the complexities of life.
Would the famous sudden loudness in Haydn's Surprise Symphony be considered
forte subito, or would it have to be a series of notes?
