Bill Karzas wrote of the Gilels Beethoven concertos:

>I believe that the Ludwig set only consists of Concertos 4 & 5.

These were my first records of these two concertos, each taking a whole LP
- those were the days. I still have a great fondness for them and I'm
delighted to know they're available on CD.

Thinking of these reminded me that the next version I heard of #4 (I don't
remember whose) used a different cadenza. I've often thought that some
information on the CD slick about the cadenzas in Mozart and Beethoven
concertos, and possibly others', would be useful. I remember hearing a
relatively recent version of Beethoven's violin concerto in which Gidon
Kremer used a very ugly and inappropriate, IMHO, cadenza by Schnittke.
A trap for the unwary!
