Since I can complain just as loudly as the next guy if the latest 20
Century composer just doesn't "write like they used to," I figure I better
quit talkin' and do some walkin' myself!
I have in my hand a CD containing the complete compositional fruits of my
current and chosen bohemian lifestyle--3 1/2 minutes of music....oh well,
call me Duparc.
The choral piece is a setting based upon ee cummings' poem, "Somewhere I
have Never Travelled," a poem so beautiful I had to own it somehow. It is
perfomed by the Sacramento Men's and Women's Choir, directed by my friend,
Curtis Lee. (It is the first poem of four that I am supposed to set for
one of the college choirs at Santa Barbara, CA.)
If some of the MCML locals out there would like to sample, and get a feel
for the "inner" John Smyth, email me privately and I will be happy to send
it to you in the MP3 format.
John Smyth
