Deryk might well be right.  My high esteem for what was, when I bought it,
a 2-cd set from Pollini, flowed primarily from his Hammerklavier although
I thought he did a great job with the other sonatas as well.  For me, the
Hammerklavier is Beethoven's finest solo piano work, and Pollini brings to
it a wealth of clarity, strength, boldness, and poetry; recorded sound is
a perfect match.  Come to think of it, the Hammerklavier is the one
Beethoven work which usually reminds me of Bach.
