The main use of Liszt's Les Preludes was for various background situations
for the radio version of the Lone Ranger.  At one time, it was among the
most requested works from the general public.  I am surprised that so many
people don't know it...  I bought my copy on Angel in 1959 and think I'll
go home and listen to it tonight...  I can still remember the exorbitant
price I had to pay...  $3.59.
