It is not possible to provoke a riot with any form of artistic expression
today because every conceivable artistic outrage has already been committed
and the public is radically complacent.
In the area of music, all conceivable musical persuasions find some place
and time to make themselves heard. Everyone is famous for fifteen minutes.
In truth, any orchestra, etc (no matter how lowly, backward, or vulgar)
would be ecstatic if they were able to provoke a riot. That event would
become the centerpiece of their entire promotional effort in perpetuity.
It would be the only distinguishing characteristic they possess.
Oh for the days when the general public felt or expressed any genuine
emotion over the merit of any artistic performance or principle whatsoever.
Other than contempt that is.
