Yes. Miaskovsky and Prokoviev were very close friends, and the former was
completely overshadowed by the latter's more "up to date" compositional
style. There is a surprising amount of Miaskovsky available on CD (on the
Russian Disc, Olympia and Marco Polo labels); all his string quartets, all
his piano sonatas, and almost all of the symphonies.
Two of my favorites are his 1st quartet (actually a far more mature work
than its number suggests) and his 6th symphony.
