Karen mentioned the newest issue of JOGNN. While I haven't read all the
articles, this one was worth the price of my membership in AWHONN.
<< 2) Fasting in Labor:
Relic or Requirement? >>
It is a MUST read! It's long been one of my contentions that one of the
reasons women are so tired after they give birth -- some so tired they have a
hard time connecting to the baby -- is because no one lets them eat in labor.
Moms in our Family Birthing Center in Michigan were encouraged to eat
whatever they wanted whenever they wanted. It was great -- much less nausea
and vomiting than in the hospital where moms were still NPO. And moms were
eagerly bonding and breastfeeding after birth -- even if it was a long labor.
Of course, lack of medication and other interventions probably helped that
too. Wonderful article -- going immediately on my list of favorites.
Thanks, Karen, for mentioning it.
