Interesting choice of torturer.  Some would find this punishment bliss.

I see Rossini as the Vivaldi of the 19c.  Those who denigrade Vivaldi do so
in the light of their experience of Bach.  Similarly Rossini's detractors
see Verdi as his superior.

I'm not so sure that things are this clear cut.  We are dealing with
different sorts of composers here.

Vivaldi, Handel and Rossini are examples of composers who use lighter
forces to achieve their ends.  But I don't think we should consider them
in a lessor light solely because of that.

They can be just as profound on a spiritual level.
