I am surprised that no one has mentioned the Jeffery Tate recordings of
these works as for a long time his was the first recommendation.  Is it
because he is British?

Also the Naxos set (Wordsworth) offers fine sound and compelling
performances at budget price.

Has anyone heard the Menuhin Beethoven set? I have a chance to buy the box
for very little.
