For "Moses und Aron" make sure you give the Gielen recording a twirl,
too--dynamite on the color angle, and far more dynamic than Boulez.

I'm not going to argue on what is or is not a melody.  The most arresting
feature of Varese for me is his percussion writing.  I must say that when
I heard "Arcana" in the car a while back it gave me a powerfully jittery
impression.  It's coupling on the broadcast with the Brahms d-minor
concerto was quite appropriate.
