Roger Hecht sends on some Zem reccomendations:
>Der Geburtstag der Infantin (The Dwarf). Another fine lyrical opera.
I highly and lovingly recommend Franz Schreker's suite for large orchestra,
(with four guitars), also entitled "Der Geburtstag...." It is on Decca's
Entartete series. The third mov't has a melody to die for, which
reappears at the end the suite as a cello solo. Poignant stuff!
I admire Zemlinsky's craftsmanship, but I'm amazed that more people aren't
tripping over themselves to talk about and listen to Schreker.
