You are in for a treat. I think two user friendly Symphonies might be the
2nd and the 4th. I would reccomend Szell for the 4th and Klemperer for the
2nd. There are at least two Klemperer recordings available, the one that
I know is the Philharmonia recording on EMI.
If you want to be a little more adventurous, Phillips has just reissued
Haitink's recordings of the Ninth Symphony and Das Lied von Der Erde on
one duo disk. This gives you some late Mahler at a good price and both
performances are excellent.
After that there is the 6th and the 5th and the 3rd....
