Byron Yan asked whether Mozart or Beethoven was the better composer.
Responses so far have focused on how both composers were great and the
matter should be put to rest.
But I will provide my ususal intensive comparison: Beethoven for solo
piano works, Beethoven for chamber works, Mozart for concertos, Beethoven
for symphonies, Mozart for operas, and Mozart for sacred works. It's a
tie!
Of course, the point was to end in a tie. I have my preferences, but
"greatness" is such a term that I consider both composers to be in that
category, and the matter should be put to rest.
