Fellow toasters, I don't know if any of you are Stokowski fans, but on
9-8-1999 I will be presenting a WAIF-Radio broadcast centering on Leopold
Stokowski's tenure with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (1909-12). Stoki
never recorded with Cincinnati, so I will instead be playing his later
recordings of the same works as heard in his Cincinnati programs and/or
those of the soloists he worked with. I'm not looking for records/tapes
so much as suggestions as to especially good recordings of some of these
things, as in certain cases he recorded the same works many times. Below
is a list of his Cincinnati programs. A couple of quick notes, a) the
Rachmaninoff selection is obvious, and I have the '29 Philadelphia
recording both on 78 and CD, b) I also have a tape of Wuellner in the
"Hexentanz", a gift of Hal Byrnes and C) I don't expect anything that
simply doesn't exist, such as recordings of either concertmaster or Busoni
in any piano concerto. Thanks for your help!

   LEOPOLD STOKOWSKI'S REGULAR CONCERT SCHEDULE
   WITH THE CINCINNATI SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

   by Uncle Dave Lewis
   Copyright 8-24-1999

note: This list does not, as of yet, does not include out-of-town
engagements, special or benefit concerts. Also omitted are guest
solo recitals, chamber concerts, and other activities presented by
the Cincinnati Symphony in which Stokowski himself was not a direct
   participant.

In regard to reperetoire listings, the simpler the better, however
I have modernized some of the titles to conform with current usage.
Likewise I have substituted the English equivalents of many works
orginally given in German (i.e. "Magic Fire Music" rather than
"Feuerzauber"). However, German language titles which are in standard
usage, such as "Die Freischutz" have been allowed to stand. In some
cases I indicate original titles when they are significantly different
in the original listing from current usage. All concerts were held
   in Music Hall, Cincinnati.
