I'm doing all I can through acquiring every Vainberg/Olympia release.
I could go the extra mile and buy multiple copies and distribute them to
selected list members but, upon reflection, I don't think I'll do that.
Actually, it's Olympia that's dropping the ball. They are releasing
Vainberg cds at a snail's pace, and I and others are ready to buy them all
in bulk. For example, Eric noted that Vainberg wrote 17 string quartets.
How many have Olympia recorded? A big three. That's not impressive at all.
Vainberg wrote many operas? Olympia seems to be unaware of any of them.
And on it goes.
My personal view is that when a record company thinks it's found a jewel
of a composer, the way to go is record as much as possible in the shortest
period of time. That's the type of commitment I'd like to see from
Olympia.
