I have been thinking on this piece a while since I wrote about it; Mahler
wrote "Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen" when he was working in Kassel 1885,
where he fell in love in someone, whom I don't know who it were. It
strikes me however that Mahler was probably not completely rejected in his
love: The text goes in a very ebautiful passage in the end of the last
song:
It seems there was something else that made they didn't become a pair,
something made it impossible, and it wasn't lack of love from either side.
Can anyone provide more info on this, and I would be thankful.
