I don't have any experience with plain water but, in my feed syrup to
reduce the growth of 'slimy stuff' I add a small amount (less than 1/4
cup to 5 gallons) of Apple Cider Vinegar. No critical measurement just a
splash from the bottle. I would think that as little as a
tablespoon/gallon of plain water would supply enough acid to keep the
water 'fresh'.
